Kiszla: When was moment these Nuggets realized they were championship-worthy? “2019,” said guard Jamal Murray, putting the bluebloods of NBA on notice. PHOENIX –  Our dusty old cowtown ain’t never seen a basketball team like these Nuggets. They’re skilled. And sassy. Who’s next? Whether it’s LeBron or Steph, this wild bunch from Denver is itching for a fight, pardner. After they totally eclipsed the Suns in a 125-100 victory that broke the competitive spirit of Kevin Durant, I asked guard Jamal Murray late Thursday night to recall the exact moment when he realized these Nuggets had what it takes to win the first championship in franchise history.“2019,” Murray replied, without batting an eye. While the rest of the league might not realize how ready these Nuggets are to rock, their faith has never wavered through the ups, downs and devastating injuries that have deferred this dream during the past four years. It doesn’t matter to Denver that LeBron James or Steph Curry have more championship pedigree or the Celtics have raised 17 banners to the rafters. These Nuggets, who now await either the storied Lakers or defending champ Golden St...

Cummings, elected as a Santa Cruz County supervisor in November, served on the Santa Cruz City Council when its Oversized Vehicle Ordinance came before the body — and voted no on approving the new law, at the time. During Thursday’s discussion, Cummings disclosed his earlier vote and clarified that, in his latest role, he would be analyzing the ordinance through the lens of the state Coastal Act.At the permit’s expiration, Santa Cruz officials would need to start at square one in obtaining approval for the coastal permit, but would no longer be under the oversite of the Coastal Commission unless the issue was appealed back up to that body, Central Coa...

UK economy grows sluggishly in 1st quarter as double-digit inflation curbs consumers spending LONDON (AP) — The U.K. economy grew sluggishly during the first three months of the year as double-digit inflation curbed consumer spending and labor unrest curtailed output in industries ranging from transportation to healthcare and education.Gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic activity, increased 0.1% in the first quarter compared with the previous three months, the Office for National Statistics said Friday. The figure matched the growth rate during the fourth quarter of last year and was in line with economic forecasts. The figures come a day after the Bank of England approved a 12th consecutive interest rate increase as it struggles to curb inflation that has remained at around 10% since July. The bank also upgraded its economic outlook, saying the “underlying picture is more positive” than it was earlier this year.“Let’s be clear, whilst the Bank of England may believe the U.K. economy will now avoid the predicted recession entirely, the country is not in g...
