It escalated Oct. 16 when 7-Eleven’s corporate office sued the owner of 1755 Blake St.The dispute began in September 2021, when Seattle-based Unico paid $61.2 million for the five-story building. 7-Eleven had been a tenant for 11 years by that time.Within months of buying the property, Unico began complaining of problems there.“Over the last several weeks, one person has overdosed in front of the premises, a stabbing suspect fled into the premises, a partially clothed man slept in front of the store, a family slept outside (it), and an exterior window was shattered,” Unico’s property manager, Maria Clark, wrote to 7-Eleven’s corporate...Laphonza Butler won't run for a full U.S. Senate term

It’s a real shame that Leonard McKay didn’t live to see Pellier Park finally reopen Wednesday. The longtime San Jose historian and member of the historical society E Clampus Vitus — along with Jim Arbuckle — was the driving force behind building a city park to honor Louis Pellier, who was the renowned “Prune King” of California back in the late 1800s.McKay and Arbuckle raised money for the park on a half-acre of land at Terraine and St. James streets downtown — once the site of the Pellier house and the City Gardens, a nursery managed by Pellier and his brothers, Pierre and Jean. The red-shirted members of E Clampus Vitus’ Mountain Charlie Chapter 1850 volunteered $70,000 in labor — that’s 1970s dollars — to build the park, which originally was dedicated for San Jose’s 200th birthday in 1977.A single French prune tree is one of the features of the rnovated Pellier Park, now open after a public ceremony, Wednesda...Antioch police ID four cops who shot and wounded homicide suspect; one had spent just 4 days on the job
