Avalanche lose again, but teammates, coach Jared Bednar not happy after “dangerous” play leads to Cale Makar injury scare BUFFALO — The Colorado Avalanche are going to limp home from this three-game road trip with back-to-back shutout losses, but a fortunate diagnosis after a scary situation could be significant.Cale Makar left the game near the end of the second period Sunday after crashing awkwardly into the end boards, but he was able to return and play in the third, and said he should be fine moving forward following a 4-0 defeat against the Buffalo Sabres.“I don’t really remember (what happened), to be honest with you,” Makar said of the incident. “I think a lot of it’s on me, going back slow, no effort. I don’t know if it was my right leg, I think I tried to take a stride and I don’t know if I caught myself or what happened. The next thing I knew, I was sliding into the boards. The Avs were on a power play when Makar retreated to his own end to retrieve the puck. Lions hope Jared Goff bounces back, Raiders welcome return of Jimmy Garoppolo on Monday night

Lions hope Jared Goff bounces back, Raiders welcome return of Jimmy Garoppolo on Monday night DETROIT (AP) — Jared Goff has been much more than a stopgap quarterback for the Detroit Lions since they acquired him and three draft picks from the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster trade. After a shaky start in which Goff didn’t lead Detroit to a win until Week 13 in 2021, he has looked like a quarterback talented and savvy enough to have been the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft as he was out of California in 2016.Goff threw 17 touchdowns and only one interception as the Lions closed last season with eight wins in 10 games. When they lived up to the hype with a 5-1 start this year, Goff had a lot to do with it, throwing for 11 touchdowns with just three interceptions.Goff and the team, though, are coming off a humbling game. He had an interception, fumbled twice and was sacked five times in a 38-6 loss at Baltimore.Goff and the NFC North-leading Lions (5-2) are hoping to bounce back against the Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) on Monday night at Ford Field.“Had this one circled fo...

Levis became the seventh rookie quarterback to start this season, the most rookies to start in the first eight weeks since the NFL merger, excluding the 1987 strike season. Six rookie quarterbacks started in that span in both 1971 and 2021. The Titans quarterback became the third rookie to start in the AFC South alone, joining Anthony Richardson and C.J. Stroud. Levis joined Marcus Mariota (2015) as the only quarterbacks to throw at least four TD passes in their NFL debuts — both for the Titans — since the merger in 1970.
