(AP) — Norchad Omier had 27 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and Miami beat North Florida 95-55 on Friday night.Omier scored 14 points in the opening 10 minutes to help Miami build a 27-14 lead. Omier made his first six shots, including a 3-pointer, while North Florida started 5 of 22 from the field.Omier finished the half with 19 points as Miami led 42-27. Seven of North Florida’s nine field goals in the first half came from behind the arc. Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Fairhaven on Friday night that left an officer injured and a suspect dead, officials announced.Officers responding to a report of an intoxicated male at 125 Sconticut Neck Road around 5 p.m. when shots were exchanged between the male and officers, according to the Fairhaven Police Department.The male, whose name has not been released, was killed.A responding officer was wounded in the leg and taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries.In a statement, New Bedford Mayor Job Mitchell said, “This evening’s fatal shooting in Fairhaven was tragic in every sense. CHICAGO (AP) — Joey Meyer, who played at DePaul and coached the Blue Demons to seven NCAA Tournament appearances in 13 seasons, has died. He was 74.Meyer died Friday in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale, surrounded by family, DePaul said in a release. The school did not provide any further information.Joey Meyer played for his father, Ray, for three seasons from 1968-1971, averaging 16.4 points in 75 games for DePaul. The guard was selected by the Buffalo Braves in the 18th round of the 1971 NBA Draft, but never appeared in a game in the league.Meyer served as an assistant for his father for 11 seasons before taking over when Ray retired after coaching DePaul from 1942-1984.Joey Meyer got the Blue Demons into the NCAA tourney in each of his first five seasons.
