AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Record heat is expected day and night many days this work week as the dreaded heat dome builds back overhead. Combined with unusually high September humidity, heat alerts are likely later this week.Day and night temperatures are expected to average out to over 90° in Austin over the next 7 days -- by far the hottest second week of September on record. Austin (KXAN) - In their last year in the Big 12, Texas is 'Embracing the Hate,' according to head football coach Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns are set to join the SEC next fall and have a future conference foe on the docket this week.The Longhorns opened the season with a 37-10 win over Rice at home, but now travel to perennial power Alabama for a ranked battle. LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Monday was a day that doesn't come often at Six Flags Great Escape. As visitors closed out the summer with roller coaster rides and eager waiting for the water park to open as temperatures brushed 90 degrees, one ride was in for its final day of service. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Amsterdam man has been arrested in connection to a robbery that occurred at the Ben and Jerry's in Saratoga Springs, according to police. Police say McKay allegedly told a store employee that he was robbing the store, and implied he had a gun, but no weapon was displayed. FERGUSON, Mo. - A Ferguson man has been charged with the murder of a woman who was found dead overnight in a backyard.Just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, officers from the St. Louis County Police Department received a call to conduct a welfare check at a residence in the 7400 block of Blanding Drive, according to a probable cause statement.Officers discovered the body of a woman covered in plastic, as well as a bedsheet, a wheelbarrow, tree branches, and a comforter. RIPLEY COUNTY, Mo. - A five-year-old has died after the vehicle in which he was a passenger ran off the right side of the roadway, hit an embankment, and rolled over.The report from MSHP said the five-year-old girl was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. Storm, an adorable German shepherd that snuck out of her Inglewood home and enjoyed the Metallica concert at nearby SoFi Stadium, is back with her owners after a memorable adventure.Though it is unclear how exactly Storm got out of her home on Aug. 25, her owners were amused by her fun night out.“We don’t know how she got out, we checked our cameras and we didn’t see nothing,” owner Kathy Villa told KTLA.A German shepherd named Storm snuck out of her home near SoFi Stadium and made her way to a Metallica concert all by herself, the band said. A new ordinance passed by the Perris City Council aims to limit the amount of junk food displayed at the checkout aisles at grocery stores.City Council members passed Ordinance 1423 in February, and it went into effect in July.The ordinance requires grocers larger than 2,500 square feet to provide healthy food or beverage items as the “default” selection at checkout aisles, a news release said.
