Governor appoints interim budget director ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)--Sandra Beattie is no longer the acting New York State Budget Director.In late February, Governor Hochul appointed Robert Menga to serve in the interim—a job he’s held before. According to her office, when the session is over Megna will return to SUNY, where he serves as president of the Rockefeller Institute of Government and Senior Advisor of the Chancellor.The governor released a statement saying in part, “ It is imperative that we continue to make New York safer, more affordable and more livable, and I know Bob’s expertise will help us move these critical priorities forward. (NEWS10) -- At around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, surveillance footage shows an individual getting out of the passenger side of a grey sedan and leaving a kennel outside of the Mohawk Valley Humane Society before the car drives off. (AP) — A Missouri law banning local police from enforcing federal gun laws remains in effect as a lawsuit against it is appealed.U.S. District Judge Brian Wimes earlier this week struck down the law as an unconstitutional overstep by the state on the federal government. Jefferson County man sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting death of his wife A Jefferson County man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the shooting death of his wife.Scott Lee Smith II, 47, was sentenced Wednesday for the 2020 death of 46-year-old Kanokwan “Nok” Smith, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.On Feb. 9, Smith pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and the 30-year sentence was part of the plea agreement, the DA’s office said in a news release.On Nov. 1, 2020, Smith called 911 “claiming he had just shot his wife in self-defense at their home” in the 5400 block of West Ottawa Avenue, the release said.
