SILEX, Mo. - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says one public water system in Lincoln County is dealing with "elevated" levels of radionuclides, prompting concerns about the safety of public drinking water. The City of Silex, a small community north of Troy, has declared a city-wide emergency over the presence of radium within its "groundwater source for its water supply," according to EPA officials. The EPA has also directed Silex city officials to prepare a plan to provide residents with an alternative source of water. The EPA says the contamination is "not an immediate threat" to the public, but one that could derive from consistent and long-term exposure."As the levels of radionuclides in the Silex [Public Water System] have been persistently elevated for numerous years, EPA encourages members of the Silex community who are concerned about their water to use alternative sources of drinking water, such as bottled water, for drinking and cooking," said the EPA via a news r...Former Anaheim City councilmember found dead at Orange County home

PARIS (AP) — Star striker Kylian Mbappé was kept quiet and Paris Saint-Germain could not find a way to score in a 0-0 draw at struggling Clermont in the French league on Saturday.Mbappé shook off a minor injury to his left ankle sustained in last Sunday’s 4-0 home win against Marseille and started. He received a yellow card for diving in an attempt to win a penalty in the 80th minute, but could not add to his league-leading seven goals.PSG moved up to second place but has won only three of its seven league games under new coach Luis Enrique, drawing three and losing one. GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — Hats off to Patrick Cantlay. After his late burst of birdies won the Americans the final fourballs match on Day 2, Cantlay’s teammates responded by removing their caps and waving them in the air.The gesture appeared to be in response to an unsubstantiated report from Sky Sports — the broadcast partner for the European tour at Marco Simone — that singled out Cantlay as causing a rift among the Americans because he thinks they should be paid at the Ryder Cup.The report also claimed Cantlay was not wearing a hat out of protest. Cantlay also did not wear a cap at the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits in 2021.European fans in the galleries were also waving the hats as Cantlay walked the fairways on the final holes of his round with Wyndham Clark.___Patrick Cantlay holed birdie putts to win the final three holes and earn the Americans a 1-up win in the final fourballs match on Day 2 at the Ryder Cup, giving them a glimmer of hope of retaining the golden troph...A Baltimore man is charged in the fatal shooting of an off-duty sheriff’s deputy, police say

WASHINGTON (AP) — On the brink of a federal government shutdown, the House on Saturday swiftly approved 45-day funding bill to keep federal agencies open as Speaker Kevin McCarthy dropped demands for steep spending cuts and relied on Democratic votes for passage to send the package to the Senate. The new approach would leave behind aid to Ukraine, a White House priority opposed by a growing number of GOP lawmakers, but the plan would increase federal disaster assistance by $16 billion, meeting President Joe Biden’s full request. With hours to go for the midnight deadline to fund the government, the Senate was also in for a rare weekend session and prepared to act next.“We’re going to do our job,” McCarthy said ahead of voting. “We’re going to be adults in the room. And we’re going to keep government open.”With no deal in place before Sunday, federal workers will face furloughs, more than 2 million active-duty and reserve military troops will work without pay and programs and services ...Latest news
