Golf: Gophers’ alum Flanagan misses out on The Open by one stroke in qualifier Gophers’ alum Angus Flanagan missed out on a chance at qualifying for the British Open by one shot Tuesday.Flanagan, 24, competed in the final qualifier at Dundonald Links in Scotland and recorded a 36-hole score of 2-under par, one off the score necessary to reach a playoff for the final two qualifying spots into the final men’s major championship of the year.The former Big Ten champion, who is from England, was leading the qualifier at one point but was 2-over for his final nine holes. The top four overall finishers at the qualifier received invitations into The Open Championship, which will be held from July 20-23 at Royal Liverpool in England.

Weather postpones New York State July 4 fireworks show ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The fireworks show scheduled to take place at the Empire State Plaza on Tuesday was canceled due to a thunderstorm. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 5. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! The original event was in celebration of Independence Day. Prior to the washout, hundreds gathered at the plaza for food, kids entertainment, live musical performances, and a naturalization ceremony.Traffic leaving downtown Albany was high as revelers left the area. Police were out helping to direct traffic. Madison Avenue and State Street were closed for a brief time but have since reopened.

County Sheriff's Department Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released body-worn camera footage of a disturbing use of force incident in Lancaster that, according to a late Monday night announcement by the department, is currently under investigation.  The confrontation happened on June 24 when deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded to the parking lot of a WinCo Foods store, located at 740 W. Ave. K 4, on reports of an “in-progress robbery.”  “Upon arrival, deputies approached a man and a woman matching the description given by store security personnel in calls placed to 911,” a LASD news release stated. “As deputies attempted to detain the individuals described by store security personnel, the encounter escalated into a use of force incident.”Officials also said that an eyewitness captured cellphone footage of the incident that the department news release referred to as "disturbing" video. Young man died after fall at a Rocky Mountain waterfall ESTES PARK, Colo. (AP) — A 25-year-old Rhode Island man died after falling and being pulled underwater at a waterfall in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park on Sunday, according to the National Park Service. The man from Providence has not yet been publicly identified and his body was recovered Sunday evening, officials said. Rocky Mountain National Park covers over 400 square miles (1,036 square kilometers) of rugged mountains and high tundra, drawing typically over 4 million hikers annually. The deceased man fell at West Creek Falls, on the east side of the park. The body was moved to the Larimer County Coroner, on the northern edge of Colorado, who will determine the cause of death. At this time of year, rivers, streams and waterfalls are dangerous cold and swift, said the National Park Service, warning visitors to stay a safe distance from quick-flowing waters. Source
